Instructions:

For Hungarian gulyas, wash and dry the meat. Peel and chop onions and cook in hot lard until translucent. Add meat cubes and brown vigorously on all sides.

Remove the saucepan briefly from the heat. Sprinkle the meat with paprika powder and stir through. Add salt and tomato paste and pour in the hot water.

Simmer on low heat in the covered saucepan for about 1 1/2 hours. In between, keep adding just enough water to keep it from sticking.

Clean peppers and cut into thin strips. Peel and dice the potatoes. Add everything to the meat about half an hour before the end of the cooking time and braise.

Before serving, season the Hungarian Gulyas with salt and pepper.

Preparation Tip:

Hungarian gulyas tastes best when you cook it the day before!
