For the basic sponge recipe, separate the eggs. Beat egg whites with salt until firm. Mix yolks well with sugar and vanilla sugar.
Meanwhile, add a tablespoon of water if needed. Sift flour with baking powder and slowly stir in.
Spread the dough mixture into a greased and floured (or with baking paper lined) form and bake in the preheated oven on the middle shelf.
