Instructions:

(*) Cook as in Nuremberg recipe by Marliese Spether, Pforzheim Make sugar, honey, malt beer and fat hot while stirring and then cool. Add the spices to the cooled mixture.

Mix the flour with staghorn salt and gradually stir it into the honey mixture.

Spread the dough about 1 cm thick on a greased baking sheet (40 x 450 mm) and smooth it with a wet kitchen knife.

Preheat oven to 180 degrees and bake on second rack from the top for about 20 to 25 minutes.

For the icing, mix fine sugar with juice of one lemon until thick and spread on the cake while it is still hot. Cool on the baking sheet and cut into small shapes of your choice.

Tip: Cook only with high-quality spices – they are the be-all and end-all in a good dish!
