Peel the pears, remove the core and cut the fruit into wedges. Then prepare a solution of water, vinegar, sugar and the cut vanilla pod. Bring the solution briefly to a boil and blanch the pear wedges in it for 4 minutes. Put the fruit in a glass jar and pour the solution over it. Close the jar airtight and keep it in a cool, dark place. The pears will keep for half a year. They taste good with game and cold meat.
